We met Leah and Naz at the World Domination Summit in Portland this year, and were immediately taken with their want to foster authentic connections! Their desire to create hyper-engaged communities lead them to start The Connection Effect. We asked them to share a little about their work and what drives them...

Q: How did you decide to start The Connection Effect?

A: We created The Connection Effect because we realized that as a society we have forgotten how to connect with other humans on a level that is sustainable, fulfilling and impactful. We got sick to death of the sleazy list building tactics that many companies seem to use and we wanted to create a space for others to join us in putting the human back into connections. Connections so powerful that entire businesses can be built upon them (from tiny startups and passion projects to large purpose-driven corporations), teams can function effectively for the first time, communities can thrive and sustain themselves, steadfast connections with influencers made, and true fulfillment experienced.

Because put simply: human beings flourish with a sense of community and connectedness. When we feel like we belong we function at our best and we thrive. We are much more likely to become the fullest expression of our greatest potential. And when you focus on connection: with peers, mentors, your community, industry or even your family, it also means you can make ripple effects in the world far bigger than if you were plugging away in isolation.

And plus, we have found that this was of living life and doing business is WAY more fun and fulfilling!

Q: What has been your favorite part of starting your own business?

A: The freedom and the fun. For both of us freedom and fun are two of our highest core values and with being mothers, starting our own business meant we clawed back the flexibility of our day-to-day schedule that most day jobs don’t allow for. The other favorite part is simply the process of creating and seeing this tiny idea in our heads become reality and actually impact people’s lives - that is truly awesome and mind blowing!

Q: What has been the hardest part?

A: Being patient! Neither of us are particularly patient people and we certainly weren’t prepared for the reality check of starting a business from scratch: it takes time! There is a lot of bulls**t sold online about creating these massive lists overnight and lying on a beach relaxing after creating some kind of passive income. It’s simply not been true in our experience. Fortunately though, we generally have our ‘bad’ days on different days and because we have a team and each other, we can much more easily push through the challenges! Creating takes time, building things takes time, making money takes time - especially if you want it to last.

Q:  As a fellow female-founded company, how has it been working with powerful women?

A: Amazing! We have a team of four and we are all women. The key, though, to making it work is that we all bring very different strengths. So for example, Leah is no good with numbers, but Naz is a brainiac! Charisse is an amazing designer and creative, Michelle is incredible with administration and technical stuff. So we are like a puzzle that brings together all different pieces and then this is bound by a very similar set of beliefs and values.

Q: What are your plans for the future?

A: We generally don’t plan very far into the future because we completely trust that things will unfold as they should. Saying that, though, we plan to keep on honing our expertise in creating hyper-engaged communities through our courses, retreats, coaching programs, speaking and content.

Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

A: For Naz: "Invisibility - so I could travel first class for free!"

For Leah: "Omnilinguism -  the ability to understand any form of language. I could travel the world and never have to worry about a language barrier!"
